A prolific burglar who targeted businesses and properties in Manchester City Centre, causing over £10,000 in damage, has been jailed. The 29-year-old male was sentenced to three years and two months on Monday 15 June 2026 after being found guilty of six counts of burglary. Between November and December 2025, he broke into multiple businesses in the Commercial District, stealing thousands of pounds worth of items including clothing, alcohol, mobile phones, and laptops. He also caused significant damage by forcing entry and breaking into offices and storage areas. In one particular incident, he forced entry into a building on York Street and stole clothing. He returned an hour later wearing a hat and gloves, searching cupboards and filling a rucksack with items including a First Aid kit. He then damaged glass doors while trying to enter offices and stole nine bottles of wine from a fridge. Across Greater Manchester, burglary in the city has fallen by 33% over the past year, with 600 fewer victims each month since May 2021. PC Gregory, who led the investigation, said: “Burglary has a major impact on residents and businesses. This individual caused significant disruption, stealing high-value items and causing over £10,000 in damage. “We take these offences seriously and attend every burglary. Please continue to report incidents as soon as possible so we can carry out a thorough investigation.” Anyone with concerns about burglary or neighbourhood crime can contact police via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. | ||
